If you haven’t heard of CardGames or seen my previous reviews, it is a monthly release of a new trick. It’s not subscription based (although they did sell a limited number of subscriptions), and each release only has 100 copies. So, when you buy it, you know you're getting something unique that only a select few have. Vol 1 Issue 1 was their take on an ACAAN, Vol 1 Issue 2 was their one card version of a Mind Power Deck, Vol 1 Issue 3 was a prediction of a thought of card, Vol 1 Issue 4 was a decision making device that lives in your wallet and is always under your control, Vol 1 Issue 5 was a ten card poker deal, and here is their description of Vol 1 Issue 6:
“Issue 6 concludes CardGames Vol.1.
This issue is our homage to Stewart James’ remarkable Miraskill. It delivers a true to life, hyper realistic and playable game that hides many secrets. Combining an impossible claim with a playable game you break the limits of what should be possible, three times in a row.
Fair Play achieves all of this without ever secretly adding or removing cards from the deck. For each round of play, the outcome changes. This breaks new ground.
You will receive a special deck, complete with a beautiful box and premium finish game cards.
Also included: One Instruction Card and five Advanced Play Cards. Alongside a beautifully designed booklet that outlines our impossible, hands-off and deeply fooling three phase routine.
An amazing bonus: A routine that we think might well quickly become your favourite way to perform another classic.
The new combination of this object, with this story and a brand new method create what we believe to be the ultimate version of Miraskill in existence.”
This is probably the issue that is the most upfront about exactly what you’re getting. I love Stewart James’s magic (remember the short lived “Stewart James in Action” project I took on?) I consider Miraskill one of his best effects. It’s often dismissed because it’s sometimes taught in beginner magic books – at least, that’s where I first learned it. But it is a devastating trick that really feels impossible when properly presented.
This deck of cards now provides a perfect justification for why you’re doing this trick. As much as I love Miraskill, I never perform it. When I’m holding a regular deck of cards, there are so many other tricks to do that I would never jump to Miraskill. However, this “game” deck provides a perfect excuse for the trick, and it genuinely does play like a game. Chris and Brad have also added some “advanced play” cards to the game which take Miraskill to new heights, and they can only exist in this game. Those added cards wouldn’t make sense with a normal deck.
They also teach what is by far the best routine for the principle. I won’t say what it is, but IYKYK. That routine is usually only two phases, but with the thing that Chris and Brad have added, it’s now a three phase routine where each phase uses a different method effectively canceling the methods out. It’s now the perfect three phase prediction effect that is entirely self-working. There is absolutely zero sleight of hand.
This is another one I will definitely be using.
