The Gil Eagles Project

Whoa I am truly blown away and inspired.

It’s so rare for a pro to give away their entire act that they built their careers on. Especially when it was a career that took them literally to the top of their field for 40+ years. Gil Eagles has just done that with Bakore Magic, and having digested all of the project, I’ve never been more eager to do a Q&A act.

Gil Eagles is a name I’ve never heard of, and I imagine many of you have never heard of him either, but in the corporate world, he was a bit of a superstar who would amaze audiences with his blindfold Q&A act. He has performed his act thousands of times for high paying clients around the world. Having read/watched the project, it’s clear why he was in such high demand.

Gil’s act is simple, quick, humorous, and personal. He made his living with an act that just contained three tricks: a swami gimmick, tossed out deck, and his blindfold Q&A. This 45 minute act brought Gil to the top and entertained and amazed thousands. In this project, he shares it all for the very first time.

You receive a lot with this project. You get a hardback book, leather blindfold, special whiteboard, carrying case, gaff tape, access to videos, and a few other bits and pieces.

The book is short, sweet, and to the point detailing Gil’s entire act with his exact script. The book doesn’t really explain anything methodwise about the blindfold (a video does that) but the book instead explains the “whys” of the act. He teaches you the real deal information about how to ensure your performing environment is setting you up for success and how to make the most of the act. He details specific questions he often sees come up in his act and explains his process for how he answers questions, and let me say, he’s one of the best at it. Gil seems to know EVERYTHING about the participant. What they’re wearing, what they’re thinking, answers to challenge questions—he knows it all. And he generously shares that knowledge with the reader. The book even includes Gil’s handling of the tossed out deck which allows you to directly reveal one or more cards the participants are thinking of from a shuffled deck. My one critique of the book is that I really wish they explained the blindfold in the book as well. I don’t love streamable videos because I’m always concerned that I eventually won’t be able to access those videos, and I’d prefer to have everything I need in the book.

The book is great, but the real meat of the project lies in the videos. You receive a video of Gil demonstrating and lecturing to the Psychic Entertainers Association where he does a brief performance and explains some key concepts of his act, a detailed studio video of his blindfold technique (more on that later), a studio explanation and run through of his act, two full performances of his act to lay audiences, and an interview with Ken Weber where he discusses the art of answering questions. All of these videos were so valuable. There’s nuggets of gold in each one—especially the interview on how to answer questions.

The thing I’m most blown away by, though, is Gil’s blindfold method. It is without a doubt the best I’ve seen. I’ve seen another performer use Gil’s method of Q&A in the past, and I was convinced they were relying on preshow (there’s absolutely zero preshow in Gil’s act) simply because the blindfold is SO convincing. It genuinely seems impossible that anyone could see even a speck of light, and yet, you have full visibility of anything and everything you want. The ad copy says it’s “full, straight-ahead vision” but I wouldn’t quite describe it like that. It’s definitely not downward vision, but it’s also not quite straight ahead vision. That said, you can see absolutely everything; you can see all the way to the back of the room or what’s right beside you on a table. It’s pretty extraordinary considering how well blindfolded you appear to be.

I’ve always been a fan of Q&A. I’ve tried several methods, but I never found one I liked well enough to make it part of my show. This is the one. I don’t do corporate work, but legitimately, I’m going to build a theatre show around this because I love it that much. If you ARE a corporate worker, you could make a living out of Gil’s act.

There are only 165 copies being made and I own number 114 so there are only about 50 or so copies left before they’re gone. This isn’t for the hobbyist or even the magicians out there, but if you’re a pro mentalist, you absolutely should not pass this up.
