A short and sweet review for you to start out this new year!
Here’s the description of this release which may have gone under your radar.
“After letting someone pick a card, you explain how the key to finding their card is written in the stars…literally. You pull out a phone and shine the light through a specially-made card with tons of holes punched into it, projecting “stars” on the wall. This seemingly random array of stars then magically morphs into a one-of-a-kind reveal of their selected card.
The best part about “Planetarium” is that you start and end clean. You can freely hand out the card to be examined with no switches. There’s nothing to find. No matter what they do, they will never be able to make the stars show the reveal again. Both lay audiences and your magician friends will be left completely baffled.”
I love magic with unique visuals and Planetarium certainly offers that. I especially think magic dealing with light/shadows has a certain appeal that can’t be denied. It draws people in and has a magical other-worldly feel that fascinates just about everyone.
The best thing about this is that the plastic card is completely ungimmicked and can be thoroughly examined. There are no moving parts and the spectators can shine any and all light through it and they will never be able to cause the card to reappear.
This actually reminds me of several Tenyo items. The method is one that Tenyo has played with several times, but I’ve never seen it used quite like this, and I was pretty shocked that it would work in this way. Tenyo has also played with this exact same effect, but their version involved a heavily gimmicked card that couldn’t be examined. This is much more portable than the Tenyo effect and, since it can be examined, more practical.
Be aware that the card is always the three of hearts so it isn’t repeatable. You will also have to carry something in addition to the plastic card to make the trick work. This is easy to carry and can be carried right beside the plastic card in your wallet, but it will need to be palmed in and out (about the size of a half dollar.) This gimmick allows you to perform the trick with absolutely any flashlight on any phone. You can also gimmick your flashlight on your own phone so that you don’t have to palm anything in or out, but I don’t see many people doing that.
By the way, the download that comes with this is right at 20 minutes and is absolute perfection. It’s direct, to the point, and thorough. This is such a breath of fresh air in the modern trend of 3+ hour tutorials.
If this slipped under your radar, I encourage you to give it another look. It’s really fantastic.
