Marlo's Magazines (6 Volume Set)

This will be a brief review on something that is one of the biggest items on my shelf. 

Vanishing Inc has just released its massive remastered version of all six Marlo’s Magazines. Each “magazine” is a huge book of 300+ pages and together they create a beautiful display that takes up more space than any other book series on my shelf. These magazines are rare and highly sought after (a complete set has sold in the past for $2,640) and they contain more tricks than you’d ever be able to memorize or use in your lifetime. The fact that all of this came from the mind of one person is just wild. You can say what you want about Marlo, but you can’t say he wasn’t prolific. He was one of the true geniuses who put out content like a machine. He has tricks that span entire genres from self-working magic to real knuckle-busting stuff. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but the best thing to do is take it one step at a time. Admittedly, these older manuscripts can be difficult to read just because they are so direct. It’s always best to have a deck of cards to follow along or you’ll more likely end up lost and confused and even then, sometimes the descriptions can be hard to follow, but that’s the nature of the beast. 

The books all fit inside a slipcase that fits on a shelf and holds them together. They are striking to look at, and they exude class. All of the covers now match and seem to be part of one collection. They are black and gold with an ornate decorative pattern that fills the cover with the four suits represented in the corners. I love the way they look on my shelf. Of course, they feel great as you’d expect with Vanishing Inc. VI is still at the top when it comes to quality magic books, and I’m so thankful they took on this huge challenge. What a gift to the future generations of magic to have this collection at their disposal. 

Also, I wouldn’t usually make a comment on the shipping of an item, but I have to with these. These books came inside of a special Marlo themed box that was inside of a cardboard box that was inside of a bigger cardboard box. Unboxing these felt like the classic nest of boxes trick with the “finale” being all six Marlo’s Magazines. I really appreciate the effort they took to ensure the safety of the books on their journey. I’ve never seen something packaged with so much care.
