I’ll keep this short and sweet today. iRis by The Daily Magician is a must-know method for the modern performer.
Imagine a peek method that allows you to glimpse:
Any word, number, name, or drawing made by a spectator
Any word chosen on any website
The exact location they are thinking of on a map
The song someone has freely thought of
The exact photo they are thinking of from their gallery
The numbers they’ve typed and then deleted in a calculator
A text message they’ve merely drafted
Any post on any social media site that they’re thinking of
An event from their calendar
A Youtube video they’re watching
And literally anything else on any app ALL ON THE SPECTATOR’S PHONE
It’s easy for reviews like this to sound hyperbolic, but truly, this is like a modern day center tear or billet peek without any billets. You can do it anytime, anywhere, on any iPhone with absolutely no set up. You don’t have to touch their phone at all until AFTER they’ve completely erased their thought from their phone. There’s no complicated steps or weird processes. Once you know this method, you’ll have it memorized for life. You can create completely original routines spontaneously and reliably get your peek every time.
Obviously, there is a method at work, but the method is already happening on your phone; you just don’t know it! The team at Daily Magician has taken a quirk of the iPhone and turned it into a solid method that will fool even those who are very knowledgeable about iPhones. I played around with a peek on a spectator’s phone when Myke Phillips released a similar idea in his book “Olivia” back in 2014, but that method was much more restrictive and even a bit complicated at times. In this method, there’s no need to detail exactly how they delete what they write on their phone. I also think the justification is perfect because this is the most logical way for someone to show someone else what word they are thinking of in casual situations.
The work that has to be done to obtain the peek requires you to look at their phone, but the peek happens quickly, and as soon as you get the peek, all evidence is automatically destroyed making it completely impossible to backtrack. When I say the peek happens quickly, I mean it’s quick to get into the peek position, but you can look at the screen with the information for as long as you want/need.
Overall, this is a great project that is worth learning and keeping in your mind for those spur of the moment performance opportunities. The video teaching is great covering routine ideas with several different apps. I already have a few ideas for how I will use this to replace routines I currently do with a billet. It doesn't take much thought to come up with a justification for all of the necessary moves.
